ROBERT 'ROBBIE' ROBERSON
Obituary by Bill Littleboy
It was with great sadness that we learned of the recent passing of former player, Secretary, President and Honorary Life Member Robert 'Robbie Roberson at the age of 88. Sincere condolences from all at Norwich Rugby Club are extended to Robbie's family and friends.
Bill Littleboy's Obituary to Robbie follows:
No doubt many of you will remember Robert 'Robbie' Roberson who died recently aged 88. He went to Langley School and afterwards joined the Royal Army Intelligence Corps for his National Service. During that period, he was posted to Malta where he was involved in training agents to infiltrate into Albania. This was something he never revealed even to his closest friends.
After that, he attended Downham College in Cambridge where he attained a degree in Land and Estate Management. On returning to Norfolk he took over the family farm at Catfield with his wife Freda and 3 children.
He joined NRFC at Bishopgate and later became Honorary Secretary, a post he held for 21 years. He was President in the 1982/83 season and became an Honorary Life Member.
One of Robbie's other interests was skiing, to which he applied his usual enthusiasm. He was also an avid Bridge player and represented Norfolk on many occasions.
Robbie will be known for his enthusiasm for life, and will be long remembered by his many friends.
NEW TREASURER SOUGHT
Dear Members, the Committee has been given notice that our current Treasurer will be stepping down from her role at the AGM in June 2019.
As I am sure you will appreciate this is a key position on the Clubs committee which is integral to the Clubs ongoing governance, management and success.
I am sure that within our loyal membership there is someone out there, ideally with Accountancy and/or bookkeeping and sound organisational skills ,who would be interested in taking over this key position.
Please do come forward and let me , Andy Pott , Helen Pott or indeed any member of the committee know of your interest. Your Club needs you.
