TREVOR WARDLEY - RIP

Trevor-Wardley-1.jpg

It is with the greatest sadness that we announce that Trevor Wardley, Norwich 1st XV Captain in 1976/77 and the Club's President in 1994/95 died early on Tuesday morning after a long illness.

Trevor was a fearsome prop in his playing days and was a regular supporter of the 1st XV both home and away for many years. He will be greatly missed by all his friends at the club.

Our thoughts are with Betty, Debbie, Tom and the rest of his family at this sad time.

The funeral arrangements will be publicised when known.

NORWICH CLUB MEMBERS AMAZING SUPPORT OF WHEELCHAIR RUGBY

On behalf of Norwich Rugby Club Vice presidents, Mark Duffy (GSL Dardan) and Mark Loveday (Loveday and Partners) bought and presented a specially made wheelchair to Adam Lambert, a young man who plays for the Norfolk Knights Wheelchair Rugby team. Wheelchair rugby is a fast and furious team sport and Norwich RFC, through our generous VP's are delighted to be able to support the team in their success.

The Facebook post from Norfolk Knights reads:

"We were simply blown away by the generosity of Norwich Rugby Club this weekend...

Before our match with Woodbridge Wheeled Warriors on Saturday, we were joined by Mark Loveday and Mark Duffy - representing the VPs of Norwich Rugby Club - who presented a brand new rugby wheelchair to our youngest member - Adam Lambert.

This not only has a hugely positive impact for Adam (as the chair is custom built to fit his frame) but also supports our aim to bring Wheelchair Rugby to the widest audience possible in Norfolk whilst reducing the barriers to participation.

On behalf of all involved with Wheelchair Rugby in Norfolk we'd like to extend a heart-felt thank you to Norwich Rugby Club for this amazing show of support."

ROBERT 'ROBBIE' ROBERSON

Obituary by Bill Littleboy

It was with great sadness that we learned of the recent passing of former player, Secretary, President and Honorary Life Member Robert 'Robbie Roberson at the age of 88. Sincere condolences from all at Norwich Rugby Club are extended to Robbie's family and friends.

Bill Littleboy's Obituary to Robbie follows:

No doubt many of you will remember Robert 'Robbie' Roberson who died recently aged 88. He went to Langley School and afterwards joined the Royal Army Intelligence Corps for his National Service. During that period, he was posted to Malta where he was involved in training agents to infiltrate into Albania. This was something he never revealed even to his closest friends.

After that, he attended Downham College in Cambridge where he attained a degree in Land and Estate Management. On returning to Norfolk he took over the family farm at Catfield with his wife Freda and 3 children.

He joined NRFC at Bishopgate and later became Honorary Secretary, a post he held for 21 years. He was President in the 1982/83 season and became an Honorary Life Member.

One of Robbie's other interests was skiing, to which he applied his usual enthusiasm. He was also an avid Bridge player and represented Norfolk on many occasions.

Robbie will be known for his enthusiasm for life, and will be long remembered by his many friends.
