Norwich Rugby Club appoints new Director of Rugby Norwich Rugby Club are to embark on a 5 year growth plan and part of their plan is to be playing National League Rugby in the not too distant future. Part One of these exciting plans is to announce ex Newcastle Falcons forward Sam Lockwood as the Club's Director of Rugby. Founded in 1884 Norwich Rugby Club currently plays in London 1 North and is based at Beeston Hyrne.
Sam retired from professional Rugby at the end of last season, being a regular 1st Team squad member for Newcastle Falcons for over 5 years. During his 5-year term he has also been Forwards Coach at Blaydon RFC and Head Coach and Forwards Coach for Northumbria University 1st XV.
Sam has recently taken on the role of Head of Rugby and Head of Boys Boarding at Langley Schools campus in Loddon, where his appointment is intended to achieve the growth and development of Rugby at the School.
“Having initially watched the 1st Team at a recent league, game followed by reviewing some game footage, I could see that their players have a lot to offer and I was thrilled and excited to accept the Director of Rugby role at Norwich Rugby Club. There is an exciting group of players at the Club that I am looking forward to working with whilst putting my own stamp on what is already a thriving environment. By working alongside the dedicated coaches, we already have in place I firmly believe we can take this club to the next level.”
Stuart Burrell, Chairman of Norwich Rugby Club, added: “We are absolutely delighted that someone with Sam’s qualities and experience will be joining the Norwich Rugby Club family. We are confident that Sam will help the club to achieve its strategic objectives and we look forward to working with him.
