Woodford 10 Norwich 54
Woodford 10 Norwich 54
Despite at times looking a little rusty this was a convincing win for Norwich whose away form has been of some concern. Woodford created enough chances to have claimed a bonus point but unfortunately they were unable to take them. Norwich on the other hand had already got the bonus point by half-time leading 10-26 at the interval.

There then followed a period of Woodford pressure and they were rewarded with a penalty from fly-half Tom Redfern. Shortly afterwards Elliott was short for Norwich with a long range effort but Norwich very quickly added 2 tries from centre Michael Lawton one of which when he appeared to be shackled by 3 or 4 defenders whom he managed to elude to score half way out. Both of these Elliott converted.

Norwich then lost flanker Simon Richards to a yellow card and while he was off the field Woodford scored a try from right wing Ray Macrae after some smart handling by their backs which Redfern converted. Just before half-time Norwich got the bonus point when Laurence Austin got the touchdown after Norwich had set up a rolling maul from a lineout following a penalty kicked to the corner. The conversion was missed.

Three minutes into the second half Norwich put the game beyond their hosts with an opportunist try from Elliott after Norwich had taken a quick lineout on the half way line. He found himself in open space and showed serious pace in beating the cover to touch down in the corner and Lawton landed a magnificent conversion.
Ten minutes later second row Nathan Wilson scored a great try by the posts for Elliott to add the conversion.

Two tries in the last five minutes wrapped the game up for Norwich one by Conan Hoey after a superb break by replacement centre Nick Austin, converted by Elliott, the other by Lawton for his hat trick after standing up his opposite number and comfortably rounding him to score near the posts, converted with a drop kick by Dave Micklethwaite to conclude a very satisfactory start to the second half on the season.
