Woodbridge 22 Norwich 38

26/01/2018

Woodbridge 22 Norwich 38

On a bitterly cold morning Norwich found the pitch playable and kick off is moved back to 10.45 to accommodate several Norwich late arrivals due to dangerous road conditions near the ground. After some early Norwich pressure the game settled down for a period with Woodbridge making some forays into the Norwich half.
Norwich number 8 Donat Fistrek came off injured just after the 10 minute mark. The first score came when the ball found Adam Huggins on the wing, who went over out wide before turning inside to score under the posts. Reece Brown converted. 0 – 7.
Head coach Jon reorganised the team and in the interim period Norwich were caught unaware as Woodbridge break and score out wide No conversion. 5- 7. The try scorer was injured and left the field.
From a box kick by the impressive Woodbridge 10, he played in the winger who scored out wide. No conversion. 10 – 7.
As the half was nearing its end, N battled hard. A break from a ruck saw Adam dodge many challenges to score under the posts. The kicking Tee can’t be found and the drop kick goes narrowly wide. 10 – 12.
The next try was Woodbridge’s, they played the ball well through some sleepy Norwich defence . The try scorer was stopped short , he pushed the ball towards the line before lifting it again and placing down under the posts. Woodbridge converted. 17 – 12. The hosts have yet another player injured in the attack.
Half Time

Norwich evened up the numbers, by loaning Will Roxby to serve as a winger so both sides were playing with 13.
Norwich restarted the game brightly, a lovely passing move saw a break by flanker Callum Davidson. He fed Adam H who made good ground with Steele Kebble in close support. Woodbridge committed 3 players to stop Adam who offloaded with perfect timing to Steele. Steele ran wide to go over and cut back scoring under the posts.
Ethan Hooper converts. 17 – 19.

Norwich had a dominant 10 minute spell, Lochlann picked up a loose gift ball and charged through the bodies. His run was halted by a high tackle and from the resulting penalty Norwich elected to tap and go. The ball was passed through numerous hands, with the scrum half dictating the play. The ball ended up in the hands of Adam H who went through a host of challenges to score under the posts. Ethan converted. 17 – 26
The influential Huggins was involved again as he ran at the Woodbridge defence with Ethan Hooper getting the try.
Ethan converted.  17 – 33.

Adam scored next, darting through the defending pack to score to the right of the posts. No conversion. 17 – 38.
With the game nearing the end, Woodbridge got a last try near the flag. No conversion. 22 – 38

This was a good hard game of Rugby against a side we don’t see often enough. The game see-sawed between the 2 sides and either side could have lead at half time. Both sides lost players in the first half and whilst we lost 2 strong players , Donat and Reece, W equally lost 2 of their attack players. These factors may have helped Norwich in the second half.
