Beccles & Wymondham away

10/02/2018

Beccles & Wymondham away

With Holt RFC having to cancel our visit to them this Sunday we were kindly invited to attend Beccles RFC where they were due to play against Wymondham RFC.

So it was with keen anticipation that we all travelled to Beccles for an afternoon of rugby, which potentially could only be bettered by an England victory in Rome later in the day. With a few players away and others injured we arrived with 20 or so boys.

With their usual aplomb the boys worked through their pre match drills and warm ups with the coaches.

Our first match was against Wymondham, both teams were fairly well matched physically but with Wymondham having a slight advantage tactically.

Both sides played with enthusiasm and with an eagerness to do well, Wymondham were very efficient around the ruck and in close contact, which meant that at times our boys were on the back foot.

What followed was a hard fought game which in fairness could have gone either way, a lovely run by Ollie D saw him jig past several Wymondham players to make the try line but a solid Wymondham defence prevailed and were able to keep the ball up.

At the final whistle the win went to Wymondham who were able to hold back a determined Norwich side.

Our next game was against Beccles, this was also to be an extremely hard fought game with both sides playing good strong rugby. Unfortunately Beccles were able to dominate the game in close contact particularly around the ruck where they were extremely well drilled.

Although Norwich’s scrum was dominant, it was in open play that we were not able to capitalise on the opportunities, which availed themselves to us.

At the final whistle Beccles came out on top after a fine display of rugby.

The next two games against Wymondham and Beccles followed pretty much the same scenario as in the first two games with Norwich just not having the finishing which we know they are capable of.

In all a great afternoons rugby, of course we have lots to take away and develop for the future; we should remember that we have a great bunch of boys who in the majority attend training, work hard, have fun and always have a smile on their faces; it’s that which we should aspire to, coupled with the odd victory.

It was a tough day today but the boys need to remember that we were playing with a mixed ability team today against two teams who do not have our numbers or chose not to bring all of their boys. Keep the faith and remember that development of all squad members is important for the future of the team.

Well done boys not an easy day but an important one to learn from.

Gary
