Lowestoft & Yarmouth 10 Norwich 27 (Norfolk Cup)

Lowestoft & Yarmouth 10 Norwich 27 (Norfolk Cup)

On a fresh, crisp, bright and sunny morning Norwich show up at Lowestoft & Yarmouth for this Norfolk Cup match. Lowestoft had a squad of 21 against 16 Norwich players.

From an early Norwich scrum the ball was worked quickly through the backs to Ethan Hooper who weaved his way through to score out wide. No conversion. 0 – 5. From a turnover, Norwich worked the ball out to Harry Busby on the wing, he went over out wide and cut back in to score near the posts. Ethan converted. 0 – 12.

With 2 early scores inside 10 minutes Norwich were perhaps guilty of taking their foot off the gas. More Lowestoft upped their game. They spent most of the remaining 25 minutes in the Norwich half during which they got 2 tries. Norwich held up a further 2 tries, which had they not defended so well may have changed the course of the game, Tom Glover in particular, halting many attacks with some  committed tackling.

Norwich unfortunately lost Lochlan to an ankle injury. The game was very finely balanced at 10 – 12 by half time.

In the second half, Norwich lost 2 players in quick succession both Toby O’Neill and Harry Townsend going off with knocks. Norwich talisman Adam Huggins, who was there as a spectator  due to Tonsillitis, decided to come on to bring the visitors back up to 14 players.

His arrival seemed to energize Norwich resulting in two well worked tries. The first was scored by Tom Glover and the second a strong run from Adam Huggins saw the game start to slip away from Lowestoft. Both tries were unconverted. 10 – 22.

Lowestoft  kept battling but the N defence held firm. Finally a break by Adam was halted , he popped the ball off to Steele Kebble who scored near the flag. Conversion missed. 10 – 27 .

The game continued with Norwich in the ascendency until the final whistle. Full Time . 10 – 27.

Norwich had to dig deep today against an improving Lowestoft side but dig deep we did. This was a close game that could have slipped through our hands if LY got a third try in the first half. They didn’t through a great defensive display from the entire side today. Well done to all.

Toby, Harry T and Loch all put in good work before their injuries. Charlie DJ, Ben Legget, Will Roxby and Harry Busby are all improving game on game. Edward Hart had a couple of telling runs and played his part in close quarter defence.

The regular stalwarts all put in their usual performances. The 2 under 15 players Luca Hall and Liam both worked hard and didn’t look out of place in the game, welcome aboard to all the Under 15’s plus it was great to have Wiktor back.

Everyone had to work hard today and at times you made it very hard, however we came through a tough game.
I thought LY played well throughout this cup tie. Keep going lads and work hard for your coaches.
Thank you’s go to the referee, Nic James. To the LY coaches, players and parents for a very good game. Finally to the catering staff for a lovely Pie and Mash meal at the end of a tough game.
