Diss 3's 69 Norwich 10

Diss 3's 69 Norwich 10

The AXV travelled to Diss in high spirits after a run of good results. Diss has always been a hard place to go and get a result, but the belief was there prior to the game.

It was snowing on the way to Diss but by kick off the sun was out and the game could be watched in reasonable comfort. There was a large crowd watching this game mainly because Will Foote of Diss, a former first team captain and long serving member was playing his final game. Norwich had agreed that a few of his previous playing friends could join the game as and when they could manage it. The Diss team was a blend of youth and experience and Norwich team was a blend of not quite as young and not quite as experienced.

The pre-match optimism was very quickly undone as Diss started the game as they carried on throughout. They drove hard with the ball in hand and scored within 5 minutes. Norwich were defending too high and their tackles were being broken. Things did improve after Diss' fourth try, a well worked scrummage pushover. The first half ended 31-0.

Norwich were playing with 17, however the two replacements were reluctant to take to the pitch due to injuries so the extra bodies that Diss had was always going to be a factor.

The second half saw Norwich tackle better and begin to understand why the referee was giving so many free kicks against them in the scrums.  Diss were rampant but Noriwch did get points on the board to make it 48-3. Then a little later a lovely interpassing ,movement resulted in Ben weaver crossing the line with a fine touchdown. Or was it a stumble? Anyway, Will Gant stepped up to show our usual kicker how to do it 53-10. Diss scored a few more and the final score ended up 69-10 with Will Foote fittingly converting the last points.

Norwich AXV have maintained their place in this league and have learned a lot about defence. So next season should be a fascinating prospect.
