Diss 33 Norwich 17

Diss 33 Norwich 17

Norwich U14s travelled to Diss for our first scheduled fixture of the season on a muggy damp September Sunday morning.

Norwich had 9 players unavailable for various reasons, early season injuries being the main culprit - at least the pitches have had a bit of rain to soften them up a bit now!

Diss had 12 boys available so we agreed to play 11 a side - 6 forwards & 5 backs. Despite our best efforts to wake the boys up in the warm up they started in their usual manner conceding a couple of early tries just to make the task more uphill than it needed to be.

Tommy Hill pulled one back before half time but we trailed 19-5 at the break.

Just to make things even harder the boys conspired to reduce themselves to 10 just after the break by getting somebody sent off for an apparent ’swing of the arm' while being tackled.

This seemed to galvanise the boys and despite conceding again Tommy ran in two further tries with Freddie Rawlings adding to the points with a conversion.

A very entertaining game between two pretty evenly match sides, Norwich should have put more points on the board but poor handling and some basic errors at the breakdown cost us and we will be working on these aspects of the game in training.

Massive well done for all the effort they put in and for making the effort to travel to Diss, I cant ask for much more than they gave on the pitch.

FT: Diss 33 Norwich 17
(Tries: T Hill 3, Con F. Rawlings 1)
