Norwich 50 Stowmarket 17
Norwich registered their fourth straight win of the season, against Stowmarket.
Two minutes into the game, Theo Elliott scored from a penalty kick in front of the posts, when Stowmarket were caught offside.
Norwich scored the first try when they seized on loose ball midfield and Dave Micklethwaite made ground down the right touchline, popping a pass to Adam Huggins to score under the posts. Elliott added the conversion.
Huggins then scored a wonderful solo try , shortly afterwards, when Stowmarket kicked the ball to him on halfway and he broke tackles and stepped his way through the defence to score under the posts.
Norwich lost Nick Austin with a dislocated shoulder, one of two in the afternoon, the other being Charlie Jefferies later in the game.
Norwich were rampant at this stage and from the restart. Laurence Austin caught the ball, slipped through a couple of tackles and chipped ahead behind the defence. He re-gathered the ball and set in motion a sequence that resulted in second row Chris Drohan going over from the right wing, under the posts. Elliott added the points, giving Norwich a 24:0 lead with 20 minutes gone.
Stowmarket got their first points on the board with a penalty kick from fullback Dan Gerrard.
Norwich got straight back to work and fought their way to 5 metres where they disrupted a Stowmarket scrum. The ball popped out and Dave Micklethwaite collected it to dive over. Elliott added the conversion.
Stowmarket upped their game at this point and Norwich relaxed theirs, with still 15 minutes of the half to go. They applied good pressure to the Norwich defensive line, which generally looked solid and well organised for most of the afternoon. Nonetheless, they powered through and Max Crowe got over the line. Gerrard added the conversion.
Norwich were penalised several times for offences at the breakdown and Dave Micklethwaite was shown a yellow card just before half time. Try as they might, though, Stowmarket could not break down the Norwich defence and the hosts went in at half time 31:10 without conceding any more points.
Norwich had a period in the second half, where they lost focus and didn’t look after the ball as well as they should have, kicking away good possession, needlessly.
The value of a scrummager of Pip Scott’s quality was clear, when he was replaced and Stowmarket destroyed the Norwich scrums. Scott was soon returned to the field and the scrums regained their solidity.
Norwich scored again in the right corner when Huggins took the ball forward, and it was worked out to Matt Selby to go over. The kick was missed.
Norwich scored virtually straight from the restart when Selby caught the ball, moved it left field across the backs, where Rob Micklethwaite made ground and passed to Jake Wharton to score under the posts. Elliott added the points.
With less than 10 minutes to go and Stowmarket pressing the Norwich line, Jonny Wheater was shown a yellow card. Stowmarket scored on the left through prop Ben Honeyball, with Gerrard adding the conversion.
There was one final score for Norwich with a good team effort that ended with Chris Parrott kicking the ball ahead for Wharton to gather and score, with Elliott adding the points.
Norwich came close to scoring on the final whistle but the Stowmarket defence held firm on the line.

Thank you very much to our mascot, we hope you enjoyed the game. Thank you also to our youth players that came to support the team and brought their club flags along to form a guard of honour for the team.
It was lovely to see Josh Lacey and Dad Jason back at the club and he joined in with the guard of honour. Not quite to the standard of his being a mascot for England, but hopefully he enjoyed the game.
