Crusaders 55 Norwich 7

Crusaders 55 Norwich 7

Norwich U14s headed to Little Melton for a Sunday lunchtime clash with Crusaders on a mild but slightly damp October morning.

We had a total of 8 players unavailable but still managed to take a squad of 14 so it was agreed to play 14 a side. The match started with some confusion when Crusaders kicked off with 16 players on the pitch, something we had to bring to the refs attention - the game was re-started with the correct number on the home side!

The core of the Crusaders side has been together since minis and they have 2/3 exceptional players, this mixture of power an experience quickly had Norwich on the back foot and despite some resilient defending we quickly found ourselves trailing to a number of quick tries.

Norwich did get a foothold in the game towards the end of the first half and the pressure told when Freddie Rawlings caught a defensive kick from behind the Crus try-line and converted under the posts, he then converted the kick to end the half 33-7 to the home side.

The second half continued in a similar fashion with Norwich having to defend resolutely to keep the score down - Crusaders had the benefit of a number of replacements and the tiring Norwich 14 battled on bravely but could not cut the deficit.

Despite the scoreline this was another brave and wholehearted defensive performance from the boys - I really couldn't ask for any more from them. Surely our luck has to change soon?

FT score 55-7
Try: F Rawlings (& con)
POTM: Louis Fraser (Scrum half)
