Match Report

Norwich Lions 0 Wymondham 2's 7

Norwich Lions 0 Wymondham 2's 7

On a damp, drizzly day, the fourth and fifth placed sides in this League came together for this battle. Both teams knew the significance of this fixture and both had prepared well.

Norwich had to make a last minute change when one of the props car broke down and he was unable to make it , so Deane Anderton, having never before played before as a hooker, took on the role.

This game was hard to write a report for ,because both sides basically cancelled each other out throughout the game. It was attack, lose the ball then defend and repeat. Norwich were stronger in the scrum and looked sharper on the attack in the first half.  In the second half Wymondham were stronger in the scrum and they looked sharper in attack.

The weather didn’t help either side in play free flowing rugby, the ball being like a bar of soap. The only try came from a mighty clearance kick to touch from Wymondham, Norwich flicked the ball back to the scrum half whose pass to a Norwich player was mishandled to the floor. The receiver was unsure of where the ball had gone unlike the Wymondham winger who simply tapped the ball to score. The difficult kick was converted .  0 – 7.

Wymondham were perceptibly stronger in the second half but Norwich kept them out. Norwich had some moments in the second half  with good runs from Guy Bill and Deane Anderton whoever to no avail.

A fair result would have been a scoreless draw however the gods smiled on Wymondham as they punished a simple error.
Final score  : 0 – 7
