Minis reports from 3rd November
Under 7 report
The under 7’s hosted the Beccles Under 7’s this weekend with a good turn out for both us and our opposition.
We did have to offer up 1 player to support Beccles which was great to then allow all the kids the opportunity to play as much as possible.
Both Norwich Under7’s A & B played exceptionally well with a series of tries being scored evenly. Significantly more inspiring efforts than those made against the South Africa team on Saturday morning!
The team are developing well and have established some of the real basics with strong passing techniques. We now need to develop the minimum passes rule in the team.
Great weather and the Beccles side were a lovely bunch to play with. Great thanks to them and their parents for turning out.
Historical reports from the Under 9's
Holt Away 22/09/19
What a fantastic start to the season for the under 9’s, The numbers are incredible! A 20 plus squad all of who have embraced this year’s FULL contact with such enthusiasm and commitment. I can honestly say from myself, Steve, Cherie and Ben we are so proud of them and to be part of the buzz that’s been brought into the new season! Not only have the children themselves been a credit to Norwich Rugby Club but the support from all the parents at the training sessions to our 1st away fixture of the season at Holt has been amazing. So a massive thanks to all.
Seeing our opening 2019-20 fixture AWAY to Holt only a few weeks & training sessions into the now full Contact season certainly had a little impact on my blood pressure and sleep pattern leading up to the game !! But wow how that changed from the second the whistle blew. COMMITMENT, TEAM WORK, PASSING and yes TACKLING and lots of it !! We had it all, it was a pleasure to be part of and witness this development from tag to contact.
Ryan, Barney and Louie O’Connor had a fantastic morning with the ball and all that hard work was backed up in defence especially from James and Ruby who put in some great tackles between them after being shown the way in training the previous week from one of our newest members Oscar Lawrence !! To be fair every player worked so hard on a very warm and sunny September morning. Every game gave us some really nice rugby, Charlie making some great runs and taking a few hard tackles!!I We were complemented by some of the Holt parents on how well we played and level of Rugby we produced.
To witness this level of rugby so early on gives us a good indication that this is shaping up to be an amazing season.
Match Report L & Y Festival 13/10/19
I would like to start with a massive Thanks to Lowestoft & Yarmouth Ruby club for putting on a great festival. Well laid out and very well organised! Well done guys!!
Again a fantastic turn out from our very impressive Under 9’s. Two full teams with substitutes and our ever present supporters club (parents, family and friends!!) great encouragement from the side lines.
After a sluggish start in the opening game and a few words of encouragement at half time from Steve Norwich B sprang into action with Ryan making an instant impact with his pace out on the wings scoring some delightful tries. With really good support and tackling from Oscar O and Louie O who throughout the matches worked tirelessly, and so the tries began to flow and the first half’s leaky defence was leaking no more!! Once the final whistle blew it was straight over to the next pitch where an excited Norwich A went straight to work with some great runs down the wings from Charlie with selfless passing leading to multiple tries from a rampant Barney, Louie C and James. Positional play was excellent from everyone Annabel, Flynn, Francesco, Casper, Ben and Adam all worked together in a really good team display.
Norwich B grew in confidence as the games went on with some nice defensive work from Oscar L, Rupie, Zak and Mathew. The ever fearless Ruby had another great day with and without the ball and a lovely try from Oliver just seemed to put the cherry on the top of an already great morning of Rugby.
Norwich B finished off the day in style with some class work really splitting the defence of the opposition then making some delightful lay off’s resulting in some of the best try’s I seen this season.
Every player this Sunday has improved so much from the first training session and with a lovely team spirit, no moaning or groaning when Cherie made the substitutions you have all been a pleasure to work with. I would also like to add Casper and Zak our newest members had a great day and considering neither had played Rugby before this season well done boys!!
All in all this is a promising start we still have things to work on in training but this is a very solid foundation on which we can really build. The only is I’m still waiting for the bus to take me back to the car park !!!
