Norwich 48 Diss 15 (ECRU Cup first round)

Norwich 48 Diss 15 (ECRU Cup first round)

Norwich U14s tough win-less start to the season finally came to an end with a hard fought victory over our South Norfolk rivals from Diss in the Cup.

Both Norwich and Diss have undergone some re-building over the last couple of seasons so it was great to see both teams playing competitive rugby. We were in the fortunate position to have 17 out of 22 boys available and the return of Eddie Hume from serious injury in September boosted the mood of the squad.

Norwich started strongly and quickly scored after only a few minutes, Eddie Hume touching down under the posts, Freddie Rawlings converting. Another strong run from Tommy Hill resulted in a try which was also converted - 14-0 after 5 minutes.

James Whitehurst then scored after a pacy run down the wing before Diss pulled one back. Further tries in the first half from Freddie and James extended the lead to 31-5 at the break.

The second half was a much more even affair, Diss really fought strongly to their credit and ran in 2 tries, but Norwich hit back with tries from Tommy, Freddie, Jackob and James plus 2 conversions.

Norwich’s back line excelled in this game, great to see them working the ball through the hands to the flanks and if we continue this sort of play we will be running teams much closer in the second half of this season.

Well done boys!

FT: Norwich 48 Diss 15
Tries: Tommy H (2), James W (2), Freddie R (2), Eddie & Jakob

Well done to debutant Ellis Feeley and James C for a joint POTM.
