Holt 2's 0 Norwich Lions 53
After a couple of very close defeats, Norwich were keen to get back to winning ways and travelled with a strong squad.
Holt kicked off and straight away Norwich were on the front foot, camping out in the Holt half for the first five minutes. A Norwich scrum saw Michael Barber pick and go from 8, to score under the posts. Hugo Barratt converted. 0 – 7.
Holt restarted and Norwich worked the ball through the backs to former Holt winger, Sam Flanaghan, who scored out wide. No conversion. 0 – 12. Again from the restart Norwich attacked with gusto. From a penalty they worked the ball first right then left with Viv Valmiki going over again out wide. No conversion. 0 – 17.
Norwich conceded a couple of quick penalties that saw Holt near the Norwich 5 metre line, a misplaced Holt pass allowed Charlie Orton to kick forward twice before touching down, just left of the posts. Hugo Barratt added the extra points. 0 – 24.
From a Norwich penalty Chris Drohan made good ground before popping the ball to Andy Hamilton, tackled he went to ground, the ball was recycled by the scrum half to Charlie McConnell. He realised his path was blocked so he played a lovely pass to Ben Weaver who barged over near the posts. Hugo made the kick. 0 – 31.
The second half started with an even period of play. Norwich conceded 2 quick penalties this aided the Holt cause. However Norwich turned the ball over on the half way line, Sam Furness made a good run into the 22 , as he was tackled he made an back-handed offload to Michael Barber who scored under the posts. Barratt converted. 0 – 38.
Shortly after the restart Charlie McConnell was sin binned for repeat offside offences and Holt started to use the man advantage. However the Norwich defence held out under quite intense pressure for the sin bin period. Holt concede a penalty that Rob Hickford kicked long to touch. Norwich won the lineout and the ball was worked out to McConell who gave it to Sam Flanaghan for his second under the posts. Hugo Barratt converted. 0 – 45.
Straight from the restart Norwich worked the ball through the back line to Sam Flanaghan, who mirrored his previous try scored just minutes before and scored again under the posts. A hat trick in only his second game for the team. Hugo makes the conversion. 52 – 0.
In another Norwich attack, again straight from the Holt restart, one of Holt’s wingers took a nasty looking knock. Holt asked the referee and Norwich if they can call the game, with just six minutes left Norwich accept the call. The referee ended the game.
This report will sound one sided however Holt certainly had their moments. A good day at the races for the Lions and the points were most welcome.
Thanks to the Referee and to the Holt players for a good friendly natured game. Thanks also to the Holt staff for the meal and hospitality.
