Match Report

Southwold 21 Norwich 12

Southwold 21 Norwich 12

Norwich U14s last away match of the winter was a trip to the soggy seaside at Southwold.

Last season we were on the other end of a huge defeat when we hosted them at Norwich - since then Southwold have undergone some changes and lost some players - but this would still be a tough battle for Norwich against a strong and physical team from Suffolk.

Norwich traveled with 16 players and the line up was shuffled slightly moving our top tackler Tommy Hill to full back from the centres.

The game started brightly with Norwich having the lions share of the territory for the first 10 minutes or so, but Sothwould then broke well and scored a converted try to put them 7-0 up.

The first half followed a similar pattern - Norwich dominating territory but Southwold looking dangerous on the break. Despite opportunities to score Norwich failed to take their chances and the first half ended 7-0 to the home side.

The second half started with a good bit of handling from a line out by Southwold resulting in a converted try to make the score 14-0. A further try, which was also converted, put Southwold 21-0 up and it seemed like Norwich were going to be on the other end of another slightly undeserved heavy defeat.

Then Norwich’s luck finally changed and Jakob Little scored in the corner to get a well deserved try. The tricky conversion was missed but further Norwich pressure resulted in a second try after a determined run by Ben Jackson. This was converted by Freddie Rawlings to make the score 21-12.

Despite further possession from the away side the score remained the same. A superb effort by the boys which on another day could have resulted in a win - a hugely positive performance and we continue to improve every week.
