Match Report

Norwich 20 Holt 10

Norwich 20 Holt 10

Today was in many ways a day of Firsts for our boys; it was the ‘first’ typically damp overcast morning this season that they have had to play in.

It was the boys ‘first’ outing in their new training and match tops.

It was their ‘first’ time playing on the new U 13’s regulation size pitch.

It was the ‘first’ time that the boys would be wearing shirts and ties after the morning’s exertions.

And finally it was the ‘first’ time this season that we hosted opponents at NRFC, and this week it was our friends from Holt who made the journey to Beeston Hyrne.

Once again we had fantastic support from our boys with 24 of them turning out to play.

As usual the boys ran through their pre match drills with their coaches before retiring to the changing rooms to swap into their new match tops.

Once the boys had posed for the inevitable team photo in their new kit they took to the field in what turned out to be a very good game of rugby between two very competitive and equally matched sides.

As both teams faced each other off it was clear that we need not have worried about the boys feeling dwarfed by the size of the pitch. They took up their respective positions with an air of quiet confidence, which imposed their intent to carry on where they had left off last week in the Norfolk 10’s.

The match kicked off and it was clear from the outset that this was going to be an enjoyable game to watch. As stated previously the weather was not as pleasant as last week and a wet slippery ball made for some interesting moments for both sides with ball handling being a little bit of an issue at times, however our boys worked hard on their handling skills and were able to move the ball effectively to the wings which in turn opened opportunities for us to score.

Holt pressured Norwich at every opportunity and put our boys and particularly the forwards under a lot of pressure, however they managed to hold back the Holt attacks with some good defensive tackles and positional awareness.

Our backs were put under an equal amount of pressure and were able to deter some effective attacks deep into our own half from well-placed kicks by Holt.

Again real teamwork by our boys made them a force to be reckoned with; the game had the potential to go either way but Norwich just had the upper hand, and this enabled them to come away from the game with a win 20 – 10.

Thanks to Holt for a great game of rugby played in the true spirit of the game with no quarter given.

Again another brilliant display of rugby from our boys, who should be proud of their efforts, well done boys.
