Welcome to the veterans section of the web site! Someone once said "you don’t stop playing rugby when you get old, You get old when you stop playing rugby”.
You may think your rugby days are over but think again! We meet on Thursdays from 6.00pm until around 8.00pm. A typical session involves some exercises and skill drills. We’ll then have a game of touch rugby and then to the bar. Too old? We have players over 65 attending and there’s no limit. It’s been the case that some have been asked to play for the 4th XV and even the 3rds.
We want to get enough of us together to enter into touch rugby and Golden Oldies Rugby sessions, matches and festivals.
Please come and join us, even to see if it's for you. If you want more info, contact me on gorugby072@gmail.com The veterans season has now started and the aches and pains of the first two sessions are becoming a thing of the past. We want to encourage all of you who think you’re ‘past it ‘ to re-think your view of veterans rugby. We welcome everyone who wants to give it a go from those of you who have never played before and don’t even know the rules, to those who used to play. Don’t worry if you can’t make the 6.00pm start, there’s always someone who is late and misses the warm up (great excuse). It may be a little late for a New year resolution but come and join us, get fitter and most of all come and have a great time!
Report from Thursday 12 Sept:
Good to see players actually making 4 out of 10 press-ups. During the warm up you could feel the weight dropping of to leave behind well-tuned athletes. The game of touch rugby demonstrated silky skills and no doubt the 1st XV training next us got some good hints and playing styles to emulate. Quote of the evening: “ I play squash but this is much harder. Much harder than I expected but great fun!”

LATEST NEWSJanuary 2020 Norwich Nomads: your Veterans team
It’s time to loose those Christmas pounds and get beach ready!
We have already started our sessions for the new year. We meet at 6.00pm (ish!), train and have a game pf touch rugby so no worries of contact injuries. We need lots more to join in to keep going. As a new way to recruit, think of the sessions as ‘eggercise’, in the spirit of ‘boxercise' but with an egg shaped ball! Contact me for more info or just turn up and give it a go. Thursday10 Oct 2019
Numbers down a bit this week despite assurances some would attend so ‘lets be having you’ to quote a famous Norwich Football Club Chairperson. It was good to have a senior player join us for a 'kicking game' to warm up. However, some practice at drop kicking wouldn’t go amiss; you know who you are! We still need numbers to keep going and so I would urge those of you who think your playing days are over to think again. Those of you who have never played before, now’s your chance. If you’re a coach, here’s the chance to practice what you preach! Thursdays at 6.00pm, or thereabouts, don’t worry if you turn up at 6.30pm or later). See you next week…. Thursday 3 Oct 2019
Once again the stalwarts of the game rose like phoenixes from the ashes of despondency to show off their silky skills and abilities. It was good to see Kev B turn up (injured last season after 2 mins play for AXV) at the club who came to watch in awe at the majesty of the Vets in action. We could still do with more of you more ‘mature’ gentlemen of the game joining us; no previous experience needed and we’ll guarantee you a good work out. With the rugby World Cup on at the moment you must be energised, inspired and excited about putting on the boots (or trainers) and joining us. Quote of the evening from Kev F: "I think I'll just lie here for a while. I don’t think I can get up just yet"
